Water Heaters
Just like the furnaces there are two model types. There is the Standard water heater that has a normal rate of recovery for hot water, gas or electric, and it vents through a regular flue. These tanks are the most common and are used widely across the board for quick replacements and new construction. They have an average warranty and are usually good for 7-10 years. The High Efficiency Power Vent water heaters have a higher recovery rate for hot water, gas or electric, it uses a different flue to make it more efficient, they tend to have better warranties, and they usually last around 8-12 years. The benefit to the Power Vent water heater is that it uses less gas or electricity which will pay for itself in less than a year plus it provides you with hot water quicker.
Now, for the parents that have kids that like to take long showers and run your house out of hot water there is an alternative. It is a Tankless Water Heater.
Typical water heaters use the hot water from the bottom first and so when the cold mixes into the luke warm water it loses its temperature fast. That is why the Tankless heater works so well. It has a manifold that mounts to the wall and has its gas or electricity running to it constantly, with no tank to heat. This it what gives you the constant stream of hot water.
