Heat Pumps
What is a Heat Pump? Essentially a Heat Pump is an air conditioner that has a reversing valve built into it. What does a Heat Pump do? A Heat Pump works exactly like an air conditioner does during the spring/summer time. It cools
the house off as well as heats it. Yes, it heats the house.
When switched at the thermostat to the Heat position
it calls for the reversing to switch and run the
compressor in the opposite direction. This produces
an electric heat that runs throughout the household.
Some people might say that they don’t like the
Heat Pump because there is what they call a cold blow.
I say that is not the case.
What is happening is that they do not understand how
to take the benefits of the product. You see, a
Heat Pump only heats your house comfortably from
34 degrees ambient and above. Anything below that is
where you people complain about the cold blow.
How do you solve that problem? Here is how. What I do is match up the
Heat Pump with a natural gas or equivalent furnace and that acts as a Hybrid system. That means when it is 50 degrees outside and you don’t really want to
run your furnace because of the gas prices, and then you can use the Heat Pump to heat your house comfortably. Now it is 20 degrees outside and you are still comfortable because you are running your natural gas furnace for temperatures 34 degrees and below.
It provides you with the best of both worlds and it is designed to save you a considerable amount of money on your utilities. Another benefit of the Heat Pump is that most Power companies provide you with some type of discount by owning a Heat Pump. If you are serious about making your home an efficient place to live then the Heat Pump matched with a gas furnace is definitely the way to go. The Heat Pump is rates it efficiency level by the SEER along with the air conditioner.
